Several Indian tribes have been connected to the Yosemite and Hetch Hetchy valleys including the Ahwahneechee, Paiute and Miwok Indians.
In an email interview with the author, "Ahwahneechee", a descendant of Paiute Indians said: "The Paiute People have always considered Hetch Hetchy their ancestral land."
In 1851, the first white man arrived and over the next fifty years, the first inhabitants of Yosemite and Hetch Hetchy would be pushed out of the Valley.
