John Muir - Preservationist
(PBS - National Parks)
John Muir was born in Scotland and moved to the United States as a child. He had a spiritual connection with the environment and believed God was revealed through nature.
He founded the Sierra Club and fought to save Hetch Hetchy Valley. He died in 1914, a year after the Raker Act allowed the damming of Hetch Hetchy. (see John Muir Obituary) Some say his death was hastened because of the grief of losing Hetch Hetchy.
